No. Everyone needs their rest-patients and family members. That's why there are visting hours. There are exceptions to this, certainly, but for the most part you should VISIT loved ones, not live there.

In the US, spouses are allowed to remain with the patient, in their rooms. They cannot go with them for surgery, or for radiographic testing. In surgery, sterility must be maintained, can't do that with the spouse in there, and most operating rooms aren't really large enough to have extra personal just standing around. And in radiographic testing, the spouse would be exposed to xrays etc, a danger to them...so hospitals do not allow for that either. So, whenever the presence of the spouse would endanger the patient, or the spouse, or even the staff....the spouse cannot remain with the patient. But, staying in the patient room at all times, is allowed in most modern hospitals now.

Absolutely, unless the patient does not want them there. I feel family members are left out of their family's hospital experiences too often, and bringing family in (as long as they are getting along) is good for the healing process.
We all need our rest though, and unfortunately the only way we get it sometimes is when we are in the hospital or recovering at home.
It should be totally up to the patient.

if I were to go to the hospital and my husband would to "stay" with me it would drive me nuts...I'm there for one reason, to get better and I would not want him there "helping" me out. I love him dearly, but someone needs to feed our pets *lafin*
