Who's to say that a degree is worhless? You never know what might come up in the future. The economy is always changing, anyway. Maybe they have a good minor that will help them get to Grad School for something practical.

Some of those Degrees are not as worthless as you make them seem. Sociology is actually useful, especially in things like marketing studies and predicting the patterns of large groups of people.
The arts have their worth as well. The world would be a dreary place without the arts.

To you, those degrees may be worthless, but to those in pursuit of them, they are not! I have a PhD. in electrical engineering, a PhD. in applied physics. But after earning those degrees, I decided to study anthropology, earning a Master's degree, because I felt something might be missing in my education. Ten years later, I studied comparative religions, earning another PhD. in that subject. I learned and grew from every subject I studied. You may call some of my studies worthless, but I do not.

Though you may feel these types of degrees are worthless, to those who are obtaining them they may have good purpose. Any degree obtained is educational knowledge gained. So it is in my opinion that the only way a degree is worthless, is if it is not put to good use once ataining it.

It's better than not having one at all.....you can always branch off and go to grad school and get a MBA or something useful a few years down the road when you actually figure out what you want to do for a living.

sometimes they feel as if they cant compete with the other more science based majors...and end up with a less challenging major. other times people are just creative and want to express their creative nature by taking up art...without them we wouldnt have the picasso's we have today. so they arnt necessarily worthless. I personally am a Physics/Math/Premed major...so i'm tring to be open minded about this, :)
hope this helps :)
if you can, please leave comments or sign my guestmap, thanx :)

15% of the reason someone gets a job is because of their education/degree, 85% is because of communication skills and experience. That being said, many corporations want their recruits to have a degree (any degree) because it shows that someone is disciplined and committed enough to complete something that they started.

They might not be sure of what they want in life, so they just hop on a fun path of school work instead of building a solid education foundation for future careers.
