I know for sure you can talk about private email. A solution would be hiring an outside consultant to check emails for abuse, but not other private details.

There is no presumption of privacy in the workplace, outside of the bathroom, and perhaps your desk drawer or locker.

However, if management has reasonable belief (even if they don't) that there is some stolen property or illegal substances in the desk/locker they can request that you give them access. If you refuse, they simply break/cut the lock (if the lock on the locker is yours, you can ask for reimbursement.)
