Unfortunatelly, more than expected. For many people the definition of good and bad is generated in the content of the media. Costumes are modified, people are critiziced, and even when sometimes it has a positive effect, most of the time it affects the society.

Badly. But there is hope. Years ago, news of any kind was limited to newspapers and later radio, and that was it. Now, television and surfing the net delivers all kinds of world news and a million opinions. Newspapers from all over world have their pages on the internet...if you read something in your paper about India, in your local press, you can check it on the web. You can draw your own conclusions. Then there all the blogs which range from stupid to high intelligence. I think the worst effect is the promulgation of celebrity life styles in all media, gives young people an unrealistic view of the world.

They affect our society by influencing individual beliefs and opinions. They do much more than report the news.
