The US contributes more money to Israel each year than it would take to give excellent health care to every citizen, and so far I have received no good reason for it, and it is for the most part covered up. Please do not twist scripture to defend a warped foriegn aid policy. God does not need our tax dollars to complete some mysterious plan about which the best Bible scholars can not even agree, and the blessing given to Abraham was given b4 Hagar was driven out and God also gave that blessing to the Arabs so we have our nose in the oldest family feud on earth taking sides. This question is not about taking sides it is about giving tax dollars to an economically sound, country rather than taking care of our own disabled and wounded. Veteran healthcare is disgraceful, many citizens have no health care, we blame exporting jobs saying it is because we do not pay foriegners healthcare helping us compete. I do not know for sure but it seems like another energy lobby strategy ripe off

Your original assertion is wrong.

The total aid package to include military aid to Israel last year was approx 6.7 Billion dollars.

There are approximately 300 million people in the US.

You won't buy much health care for 20 some dollars per year.

It is funny that the US gives money to support Israel and then for Israel to not even listen to them or give the time of day when asking them to tone it down on attacking Lebanon or giving peace a real chance.

Israel should remember that without the US support, they would be driven to the sea being surrounded by the Arab nations or as the Iranian President had stated be blown off the map. That is the only reason I see why they still exist, not the plans of the Bible, devine intervention or such.

The money sent there should be used to help the health care system. If Israel is to survive, let it be through the grace of God. Then, maybe Israel would start to listen to reason instead of thumbing their nose at not only the US and the UN but the world in general.

There are a multitude of reasons for the massive financial aid contributions to Israel....and no, "God told us so" isn't on that list.

First and foremost, the US, Great Britain and others established the state of Israel shortly after WWII, and as such we've got a vested interest in making sure that it is a successful project. Secondly, in case you haven't noticed, we're pretty short of "friends" in that part of the world, and having an ally - even one which exists pricipally due to our support (both financial and otherwise) is a helpful thing.

Of course, there *are* all those lobbyists that were mentioned, as well as the special interest groups and political action committees which currently exist to further the agenda of Israel...but then, there are also lobbyists, special interest groups and political action committees doing the exact same thing for AARP, NRA, and a myriad of others.

Let's just say that there are many compelling reasons for us to be providing support, at least from the perspective of the lawmakers cutting the checks.

Israel is a strategic and political ally. And Congress decides to give money to Israel, along with dozens of other countries. It makes Congress looks good (to foreign countries), and keeps these other countries happy with the US (somewhat).

Look at it from Israels point of view. They're going along and someone decides to give them half a billion dollars, as a gift. Would you say no?

Don't blame Israel. Blame Congress. Because Congress can turn off the foriegn aid tap whenever it wants.

Israel is blackmailing various US government officials. It's hush money. It's the only option that makes sense.

Lobbyists would disagree with you. Any lobbyists care to comment?
