I am overly shy and cannot talk to new people that well. When I want to talk to new people, my words cannot come out. What do you think I should do?

Give yourself more confidence and don't show your shyness which might be asking much but try to be open and friendly and introduce yourself or act open to meeting new people.

Because your overly shy, this might take a while but practice meeting people to yourself by building up your confidence of mind while your alone because shyness can change once you get to know a person so act like you know the person and be more open.

When someone says hi to you say hi with confidence. When someone indulges you in a conversation conversed with them in a open manner and don't let them sense your shyness and your only being shy because you don't know the person and that's normal but you should eventually grow out of such shyness once a friendship is formed. Good luck.

You wont make a friend if youre shy. Have more trust and confidence in yourself. If you turly and sincerely want them as friends you have to make the move though. You can exchange short conversations with them. For example, "Hi, Ive seen you around and thought I could have a chat with you." If she/he is arrogant or hostile enough to reject talking to you, its their loss of making such a brave and friendly friend like you. Good Luck!

Smile at people and when they speak to you- Say to them, "I am very shy and I don't want to trip over my words and offend you or embarrass myself so please be patient with me..." Then do your best to participate in conversation. If you don't know how to respond to someone simply tell them, " I'm unsure how to respond or reply." You wouldn't want to say the wrong thing and this lets people know that you may need more time to contemplate their question or statement.

I think you just have to find a common ground with someone then you'll keep talking on the subject until someone changes it.

join clubs, volunteer somewhere, when you've been a few times you'll feel more confident around the people there and talk more and maybe become friends.
