The replay shows the defender appeared to have already left his feet. He hit him with the shoulder, and not the crown of his helmet. It could have been far worse.

"Cheap shot" implies intention, and I'm not sure I see that. Geathers doesn't have a checkered history of cheap shots, like say Lynch or Harrison. Should he be fined, probably. Probably should have been a flag too. QBs are fair game outside the pocket, and the defender should not have left his feet.

If this wasn't a QB, no one would be talking about this.

Nope. Even Herman Edwards said it wasn't, and he speaks his mind. Geathers went to the air EXACTLY when Green started sliding, it was unavoidable.

and Nara, bringing up a similar play that was ruled differently doesn't help your case. If anything, it's further evidence that the NFL officials are inconsistant and incompitent.

yes it was. i was watching the Lions game where Hasselback did the same thing. Flag was immediately thrown. I know as a defensive player you get all excited about hitting the QB but you know you can't hit him when he slides. Throwing yourself at him right as he slides is not an excuse. I know he'll use the excuse i was already in the air...whatever it was a blatant cheap shot.

No but I think the insensitivity comment afterward by Robert Geathers was cheap.

It was late and it was meant to injure, he lowered the shoulder. I wander how many of the people who say it wasn't are Bungals fans, the same ones that balled about Carson and said it was intentional. Anyone can see that this was far worse and intentional. Geathers was mad, that this old (by NFL standards) man was making the Bungals defense look foolish.

No...just a bang/bang play where Geathers hit Green as he was going down. Part of the game.

No
Definately clean

I don't like that sliding rule or any other of these rules that protect offensive players and Kickers

I think eveybody is equal on the field
These rules that protect Wrs, Qbs, and Kickers slow down defenders

By the rules, you can't hit a QB who slides down. It should've been a penalty for that reason. I've seen many flags thrown for much less than that.

Of course it was a late hit and a lousy call by the officials

Hell yes, thats was such a bad non-call. Yeah the guy pushed him a little but he still tried to pelt the poor bastard. He could have let up, so that excuse is bullshi*.
