Well, I bought the guinea pig because guinea pigs, they say, don't bite. My piglet doesn't like to be held, and she sometimes bite me when I "do nothing", e.g. when I don't feed her or play with her.

Mine don't bite meanly, they occasionally nibble my finger if I hold it out to them - I think they're just checking to make sure it's not a carrot. Their nibbles have always been gentle and don't hurt. But, every piggie is different, and some are more aggressive than others. If you don't react to their biting (immediately put them down) or don't give them the opportunity (hold their head away from fingers) then perhaps you can get them out of the biting habit. I'm sorry yours is a biter!

what type of guinea pig do you have ?

The only time, i have been bitten by a guinea pig ,
It was an Abyssinian ( rough curly coat)
this was when i was judging cavies, at the Guild-ford town show . and ouch !------ it was painful .

I have kept cavies for the last 35 years and this was, the only one I came ac cross that bit me .

I am so sorry you have had that bad experience ;

as a rule, guinea pigs are gentle friendly little pets and i would recommend anyone to have them as pets-- from 8--80 years old ,,

Are you sure she is biting and not just nibbling? Mine occasionally nibble my hands to tell me they want to go back inside the cage, or get my attention.

Usually guinea pigs do not bite. That's why they're such good pets for kids.

My pigs don't like being held either. They usually freak out and will spazz for a few seconds while I hold them. They've never bitten, but I try not to push them farther than they want to be handled or played with. My male will make drrr noises while I groom him and if I ignored his squirming when I brushed and trimmed him he would probably nip me pretty good. Sometimes they'll nibble but it's nothing serious.

This is very unusual. I would give the vet a call and ask about this. I had one whose mother died when it was a tiny baby that would bite occasionally. I thought it was because it felt deprived of nursing. I fed it with a bottle, and it grew up, but never acted normal. I think they have psychological problems sometimes.

They do bite, but it is usually just little "nips". Mine always bite when I get them close to the cage and they want to go back in. It's like their way of telling me what they want.

Mine would if I was sweating and she wanted the salt off my hand. I'd tap her on her head and say, "No!" loudly. She'd stop and just lick my hand.
