LEGAL -
Can generate additional revenue from being taxed,
Save money: "war on drugs" ad campaigns, court costs, police costs, and jail costs
Reduce criminal prosecution of non-violent, casual, responsible, adult users. Similar to choosing to smoke cigarettes or alcohol
ILLEGAL -
Will possibly create a subculture of lazy people (but why is alcohol legal, when alcoholism affects society similarly)
Will possibly make it easier for children to get it (again why is alcohol legal, when alcohol affects society similarly)

lp.org and norml.org are good recomendations. For the other side of things you might look at the DEA website or CDC.
MJ is neither a blessing nor a curse. Its just a plant. It typically makes people lazy, non-violent, content and disorderly.
Keeping it illegal or making it illegal is not going to change society in a very remarkable way. It would be fair to many long-term mj users to allow them to do as they please in peace. Many of these folks would grow their own plants and mind their own business and be much happier because they don't have to worry about having their lives ruined through exposure and jail.
Just being a faily easy to grow plant, mj would seem to be a bit overpriced at something like $100 per ounce. Its likely that legalization would take all the money out of it and smugglers would leave the business. The smuggler types would go looking for something else to do, and might very well concentrate their efforts on really harmful things. This is a legitimate worry regarding mj legalization. A lot of police power and money would be freed up to go after the smugglers. People who wouldn't turn in a mj dealer might feel more compelled to report worse activity.

It will not be legal in your lifetime.
Billions of dollars are spent every year by the DEA thousands of people work for the anti drug business. A change in the laws would close down a bureau of Government and put everything from dog trainers to spy satellite builders out of work.
I support a decriminalization of home grown as a starting point.

i believe marijauna should be legal...there are beneficial factors to it being legal, mostly economical. strong fiber for making more durable clothing, THC is the cleanest burning oil known to man, there are unexplored medical benefits( as it stands now, the govt doesnt allow scientific research on its medical benefits because of its illegal status)... thats 1 of the most recent arguements to making it legal for prescription use, so doctors can research its benefits legally..
as far as the illegal side: i think marijuana is misclassified in its illegal status & see no benefit either way for it to be illegal..except for the smugglers..if it were legal & treated like alcohol it would be cheaper & more useful benefits extracted from it...the cost of the war on drugs would go down somewhat..
there really is no benefit to it being illegal, its a widely used drug & costs us in tax dollars in the fight on drugs

LMAO! Answer dude, if it were LEAGAL you wouldn't have SMUGGLERS! Marlboro already has a patent on marijuana cigarettes, in case the laws are reformed. THEY will be taxed, just like cigarette companies...

Why not think about the issue and give your own recommendations? Your opinions are more important for your paper and life than the ones you receive here.

it should stay illegal
but be decriminalized for personal
private use, imo.
child molestation, however
which is legal in most of the
UStates, should be made
illegal.
child molesters should be
,`,`,arked on the face, tethered
and castrated. condemn and
abolish legal minor molestation,
prostitution, child abortion, and
mandatory idf service in israel.
