How much time do you get away? You need to do something for *you*... I have 2 beautiful girls, and they are very close in age. I *never* took time for myself and I was always depressed and crying. The kids were actually *relieved* when daddy got home. Eventually, I got a job, 2-4 hours an evening... and though (having a daily break from them) my relationship with my kids got better, my relationship with my husband suffered, because we were doing "kiss and go". That got better when we moved, and I no longer had to work (though I'd still *like* to)... but I still make time for myself, be it a walk with the dog, a trip to the gym, or just going to the library... just an hour or two once in awhile will work *wonders* for you. And you will learn to enjoy your happy baby!

Just be glad he's squealing from pleasure and not having a tantrum. He's discovering his "voice." As grating as it can be on your nerves, be thankful he's not screeching/screaming from anger or frustration or colic! I have a 2 1/2 year old and a 14 month old, both of whom are prone to tantrums. I'd gladly take the squeals of a happy 4 month old over a temper tantrum ANY day! :)

A 4 month old baby squealing-- that would be music to my ears. My baby is 5 months and he also squeals. I try to encourage him to be a happy baby. Would you prefer that he screamed all day?? Sorry, I can't relate--- I love the squeals. After all, he is a baby.

Enjoy it! That is what most babies do at this age. They have found out that they can make noises so they are playing around with it. I think it is darling. If you can't handle your child squealing from pleasure, then how do you handle it when he is crying? Wait until he is 2 or 3 and is getting into everything and basically destroying your house. Will you be able to handle that?

I had 4 children and they loved to squeal also, just to hear themselves make noise. You can't punish them...so I choose to do very simple negative reinforcement. Whenever their squealing got too loud...I would pick them up and carry them into the next room away from me and leave the room. I would still pay strict attention to what was going on with them, but after about 10 times they quickly got the idea that the really loud squealing meant mom or dad would not be in their line of vision any more. They did not like this so they stopped.

It's too bad that his squealing annoys you. I really miss hearing my son squeal in happiness. Your baby will grow out of it pretty quickly. You could try making low sounds in your throat and see if he will copy you. My son was fascinated with his Daddy's low voice and tried to copy it a lot of the time. Everyone said it was weird for a baby to be making low noises instead of high ones, but it didn't hurt anyone's ears either.

Aw, he's a happy baby. Let him squeal. It's better for them to be happy than to become irate or confused and squeal for those reasons.

He's hearing himself for the first time..and he's starting to realize that it's coming from...HIM!! I know it seems annoying and it's loud...but he'll out grow that phase and start something new in a few months...ENJOY HIM WHILE HE'S LITTLE...

Well being a new mom is a big adjustment period. Are you sure you are not going through post partum depression?? Talk to your doctor.
