if you look at the definition of a desert, I think you will be quite surprised. It is based not any vegetation type but on the amount of moisture the area receives in a year. For example Antarctica is a desert. You can smell grass sage cedar flowers all sorts of vegetation, depending on the type of desert you are in. There is much more to desert than just heat sand and dirt
