The graphics card produces the output for the monitor. The machine won't work without one.

this depends on what you mean, but you do need a video card/integrated display adapter to output to a monitor or other display device.
if this is about a game with missing elements it may be that your card is too old (might be to slow or not enough video RAM) and doesn't support something needed to display something properly, if so you may need a video card upgrade

You either need a graphics card or intergrated graphics, which is graphics built onto your motherboard.

without a graphics card on your computer, you wouldnt be seeing anything.
