Hi!
I am using Nokia mob ph. I came to know that nearly all phones support emergency calls such as to numbers "911" & "112". Are there any other nos other than this?
What are those "emergency calls"? When called to that no. will the telephone operator charge amount to our account. Where will the call be transferred? Who will attend that emergency call when called from a phone? For what purpose those emergency calls are used?

Every phone in the world that is offered today is "E911" compliant. If you are on a contract you will notice a small fee for this feature that the government passed 4 years ago. When making an emergency call the phone pretty much shuts down and goes in SOS mode and will be routed to the nearest police department or if too far from one a signal will be sent to nearest one and they will be able to locate you by longitudes and latitudes and send help to where you are using GPS technology. You should be very happy that is available. The beauty part is that it travels with you so it will always connect to nearest emergency center. You will not be charged extra for this...you are already paying it every month on your bill. Also, this doesn not take any airtime away so if you are using a prepaid phone or contract phone it will never take minutes away.

Tip: Even if you have a phone that has no phone number or not even actuvated it has the capability to go into sos mode. I have a lot of elderly clients who just want a phone in the glove box to be able to call the police...it works very efficiently.

All cell phones that operate here in the US can reach 911 emergency services whether they are currently active or not. When you dial 911 you get the local emergency operator just like you were calling from a landline phone in that area. The local jurisdiction will send whatever help that is required when you call. You will need to contact your cell provider to determine whether or not you are charged minutes for emergency calls. I don't think that you would be but your provider would be better able to answer that.

You can call 911 with a cell phone even if you do not pay for service, thus there is no charge for using a cell phone with or without a service provider when dialing 911. The calls in California go directly to the CHP so I assume all calls go to the state agency you are in. You can also count on law enforcement showing up to any 911 call.

Yes, 911 is free from any cell, with a active number ot not. However, many of the phones still in service are NOT GPS capable, so the best most of them can do is find the closest cell site to where you made the call

I think 112 is only allowed when the sim does not function. Emergency calls that are vary from country to country and are determined by government law or the generosity of the cellular provider.
