Haven't you ever seen a big ball of ants floating on top of the water during a flood?
The gang of ants is constantly moving around so that the ones on bottom are never underwater for long.

I live in Bay City and I think it is because that they are so far under ground. But it also could be that the larve can with stand all of that moisture and then hatch out when the weather condidtion are best for that process.

some ants can swim and they dont only live on the floor they and climb on walls and stuff like that

they move to higher ground or grab ahold of something floating to get to higher ground. flash flooding will kill some but not all.
