I'm on the pill, so I'm more likely to get yeast infections. My pap smears are always normal and my doctor says everything checks out fine. I already know to avoid wet clothes, avoid pantyhose, wear cotton panties, eat yougart.... anything else? Sometimes I can feel a yeast infection starting. Is there anything I can do to stop it? I don't want to go off the pill... I love how it regulates my period and helps my cramps.

acidophilus, you can find it in the pharmacy section with the vitamins and natural remedies. It has the same active ingredient as yogurt and it works. Also drink a lot of cranberry juice it is supposed to prevent bladder infections but it also helped me not to get yeast infections. Using these two I haven't had one in 3 years and I used to get at least 5 a year.

Avoid antibiotics or foods that may contain them. Also, for years I thought I was getting them but turned out it wasn't yeast at all. It was just a mild overgrowth of a benign bacteria that resolved itself without turning into an acutal infection. Although douching is not usually recommended, a vinegar and water one about once month might help.

Sleep without panties. Air circulation deters growth of yeast. If you aren't ok with that, buy some slightly too large men's boxers and wear them to bed, that gives some good air circulation (and it's so sexy ;) )

Cotton underwear only.

Drugstore.com has a cornstarch-based powder (never use talc because of the link to ovarian cancer) that contains tea tree oil, the manufacturer is Jason's. Tea tree is naturally antifungal/antiyeast.

Edit: To the poster who disses cornstarch, Monistat, who makes the most prescribed antiyeast pharmaceutical, recommends the use of cornstarch here: http://www.monistat.ca/english/advice_good.html

Moisture is a worse problem than a bit of starch.

If you sleep with a partner who is uncircumsized, you are more likely to get a yeast infection. Try boiling your underwear before washing to kill germs. I know this sounds funny but it works.

Use Lactobacillus organisms. Drinking acidophilus milk or eating yogurt that contains live Lactobacillus organisms may be beneficial in maintaining a normal balance of vaginal organisms

don't use cornstarch, it feeds bacteria, don't douche and uncircumcised men are not more likely to give you a yeast infection. cranberry juice can work wonders, if you don't like the taste, you can buy cranberry pills that work pretty well

I had the same problem and my doctor also told me not to use fabric sheets in the dryer. She said that it will just irritate you even more. Also do not wear underwear to bed.
