I was thinking of wearing a somewhat dark grey shirt with black slacks. Is that alright or should I go with a different color?

That sounds good to me. You dont say how formal the wedding is though, if it is really a formal affair you may want to wear a suit jacket that you can always take off later. A tie might be nice though.

If this wedding is this season you should wear the following:
Wear one of the following below the belly:
A) Brown shoes, black dress pants, brown belt
B) Black shoes, brown dress pants, black belt
Why? because brown is a fall color
Wear one of the following above the belly:
A) A white tank top or t-shirt with a nice white dress shirt
B) A white tank top or t-shirt with a dress shirt that matches your eyes
C) A colored dress shirt with a tie that has the color of the shirt and either brown or black in it.
Remember these are suggestions and once you see yourself in front of the mirror be confident with heading out the door. Being confident in the way you're dressed is how you know you're dressed well (99% of the time).

I would try to match the jacket and paints the same color.
If you can't do that then try for a solid color tie and some nice cuff links.
If you need help with tieing your first tie go to the following site...It has a very easy 6 picture step lesson on that. Also some good tips on dressing up and some alternative to dressing up for special occassions.

That is fine if you look good in gray.
DO NOT let an undershirt show at the neck - and make sure your clothes are pressed. Polished shoes too.
Just went to a wedding and this is what I noticed on the men.
