My 2 month old 1,500 dollar computer is crap. I let the dell technician try to fix it remotely and all he did was make it worse. He said the software is corrupt, but now it runs worse than before he tried to fix it.

I know exactly what you are talking about. When my dad got me a computer the summer before last, he had it custom made with a lot of special features and such. Two days later, it blue-screened, two months later the hard drive was shot, and there were some other minor problems with it. My dad called the company to try and get a new computer but the guy he talked to "didn't have the authority" to do it. My dad kept at it and finally talked to someone who had "the authority" to get us a new computer - one that actually worked. And the computer that I have now works alright - not the best, but it does what I need it to do. Dell is becoming too big and because of that, the management is falling apart. I estimate that if they keep this up, they won't be the top computer supply company for much longer.

Did you try loading it from the ground up? That will clear out any software issues. Most of the time, it is quicker to just start over when things get messed up.

If it really is a software issue, blame Microsoft or yourself or whoever wrote the crappy software that caused the problem. Dell puts hardware together, not software. It is not thier fault if Widows has security holes, or you dowloded some virus from Limewire or any other such thing. The same thing would have happened on every brand of computer.

Dell technical support is the cheapest it possibly can be.

It's based in India because it's cheaper, uses unqualified staff because they're cheaper and isn't worth picking the phone up for. The use expert system software, they simply follow onscreen instructions, all multiple choice. Is there a blue screen, is there a pink elephant, etc. Tick boxes and it suggests fix procedures.

The really annoying thing is you have to call them when something breaks to get an RMA and they make you follow the procedures beforehand.

Honestly, most of those phone technicians are useless. they usually follow a script to troubleshoot your PC without taking the time to figure out the problem. You are more likely to get good information by posting on tech help forums on the internet.

Dell used to be known for good tech support five years ago. They've been coasting on that reputation for years since all their support is in India now.
