To answer your direct question, Jeter. It's amazing the people in here can't seem to answer a simple question. Look at all the dummies with names other than the two names you've asked for. Daaahhh!!!

It's all about The Big Hurt.
Big Papi won't even see the Playoffs, and Jeter is playing an AllStar game everytime the Yankees hit. The Big Hurt has won so many games for the A's its ridiculous.
6 Hrs in the last 6 games and counting...
Big Hurt for Comeback Player of Year and
Big Hurt for MVP '06

I can't believe not one person has mentioned Joe Mauer, a catcher hitting .350 for a team that's playing as well as the Twins...I have been saying Jermaine Dye over Mauer for some time, but it's looking more and more like the Twins are in and the White Sox are going to be out of the playoffs...So, it's
#1- Joe Mauer
#2- Jermaine Dye
Jeter isn't even close to being the best "all around" shortstop in the AL, he's 3rd at best...No, DH is an MVP, even at that the Red Sox are not going to make the playoffs and Ortiz is not the best DH, Travis Hafner is...It's not the most valuable, I play half of the game, player...

First let me say that I am the world's biggest Yankee fan and thought Papi should have won last year......early on he was in the lead but it goes down to finish and Jeter at this time is leading the race......falling 11 games in the loss column does not help his cause......he is still unbelievable at the plate....I hold my breath from the time I learn that he is due up the next inning.....truly one if not the greatest "clutch" hitter ever....but Jeter is currently hot and as are the Yankees.....so my vote goes to Jeter

Jeter has to be MVP......NY Yankees are one of the best teams in the AL and he is the best player on that team. Jermaine Dye and Ortiz are having great seasons but they are on teams that might not make the playoffs (especially the BoSox).

If it was only those two, Jeter. No DH should ever win an MVP, they only play half the game, and the easy half at that.

Jermaine Dye. Jim Thome also could make a case, after 2 years of injury he came back and had a great year, that is if the White Sox go farther than the regular season.
