Dear Joy,
My mother is 79 years old she used to have the same symptoms as yours, till she told me that she always felt worse when she got up and felt worse after sleeeping, and most of her aches and pains were left sided and she could'nt bear anything tight around her neck and abdomen, I prescribed her the Homeopathic Remedy LACHESIS 200 along with ARNICA 200 just once a day she felt quite the worse the next morning but till about afternoon she started to feel well and kept on getting better and better taking both of these remedies together once a day for a week and she says she has never felt better. If you have the same symptoms I would suggest that you take the same remedies. You can read more about them in the Materia Medica of Homeopathic Medicine By Dr William Boericke MD by clicking the links below and match your symptoms with those of the remedies. The more similarities the more the reason to take them and to get 100% well without any complications or side effects of any kind . If you need any help with Homeopathic Medicine please feel free to email me,I would be happy to provide it .
Take Care and God Bless you !

While I find it difficult to believe that there is 72 year old on Yahoo answers, I'll give it a try. Maybe you need a new mattress. Mattresses older than 10 years do not support properly. I am currently dealing with pain in the morning because of this. Otherwise,if you really are 72, perhaps you have a hip fracture or other injury. Try a couple of Tylenol and go to the doctor.

I have spinal arthritis and get the same thing. Here's what is happening, the joints have degenerated and are allowing the bones to rub together. The rubbing bones irritate the nerves and cause the muscles to spasm uncontrollably. Try seeing rhuemetologist (arhtritis specialist).
Also try these techniques before you get out of bed.
On your back bring your legs up so that you feet are flat and your legs look kind of like triangle if you look at it from the side. Very very gently (with your knees together) rock your legs left to right only moving about 1 inch to either side. It won't seem as if you are doing anything but trust me it is. Do about 50 of these tiny motions slowly.
Then very easy, alternate small pelvic thrusts and low back arches. You basically just need to contract the muscles, you don't need to do large or difficult motions. Contract your stomach muslces so that your hips go up toward the ceiling for about 2 seconds then relax. Then arch your back a tiny bit so that your bottom goes in toward the mattress. Also about 2 seconds. Small movements, don't jerk and don't try to over exagerate. Start with a few, maybe 5 of each thenwork your way up little.
Now for the spasms. If you can get an exercise type elastic band it is best. Flat on your back with legs extended. Take the band (tying it into a loop seems to work best) and slip it around the bottom of one foot and then straighten your leg back out (that's elastic is best) use the band to pull your leg (still straightened) into the air with your foot flattened as if you were standing. The goal is to get the bottom of your foot pointing to the ceiling. This will stretch your ham string and alleviate the spasms. You need to go slow and work your way up to your tolerence.
A good physical therapist, back specialist or arthritis specialist can show you these and give take home visual aids. You really need a doctor or therapist to show you these and give you instruction according to your needs.
My specialist lso prescribed me Soma to take at night to relax the muscles and help me with my mornings.
Good luck. These things really helped me. I was in tears trying to get dressed in the morning and I was only 34! I now can usually get up and start my day right away. It's not perfect but I'm not crying and I'm not on tons of medications!

The fact that you say it is only in the morning may mean that you need to mave around more the rest of the day.Inertia results in pain given enough time.
My mother is 80 and she does stretching exercises IN bed so that getting up is not that painful. She also walks 5 miles a day.
IF they are indeed spasms then you may need potassium. Are you taking diuretics? And most importantly, Ask around for a GOOD chiropractor. S/He can help with stretching exercises, natural anti-inflammatories; like tumeric and ginger, plus vitamins.
good luck..

You have some good answers here. It helps to keep moving, even though you want to lie back down. If you can do water aerobics, that helps. I'm laughing at someone who thinks a 72 year-young person wouldn't be using a computer or be on Yahoo. I taught a great-grandmother (90 years old) to use a computer. She loves it and does internet puzzles faster than anyone I know.

Look into a good chiropractor. One that does a low force technique like SOT or AK. I suggest going to www.sorsi.com to find a doctor near you. They can help ease the discomfort and also assess your nutrition, maybe that is the cause.

Go for the potassium(bananas) and liquid chlorophyll which is the worlds best anti-nflammatory. I would think your liver is pretty hammered too so start some milkthistle seeds.

If cost is not issue, magnet therapy is great. You could buy full mattress pads and girlde-like devices that are comprised of magnets. People swear by it and say it worked wonders for them.

For muscle spasms, they are having great results with Botox. They use it for many conditions. Ask your doctor about it.
