Yes! It's beautiful! Bring the camera and binoculars. The ferry ride alone is worth the trip. Make sure that you check ferry wait times beforehand, as the boat is likely to be very busy and you don't want to have to wait any longer than you have to.

The weather this time of year can be tricky. As someone else here suggested, it wouldn't hurt for you to layer your clothing. Especially on the islands, it could be windy and chilly, but it could also be warm in the sun.
If you don't already have a place to stay, I'd highly recommend the Inn to the Woods. The hosts are very attentive, the rooms are beautiful, it's quiet and peaceful, and the breakfast was excellent!

Take a warm coat - I'm not kidding. It gets pretty windy and cold out on the water.
Take binoculars.
Don't expect to actually see any whales. They're unpredictable.
Taking a ferry to Friday Harbor is much cheaper and almost as likely to see whales.
If you do the ferry, you can spend time in Friday Harbor - a very beautiful place. If you like strange history, go to the British Camp and learn about The Pig War. It's fascinating. Roche Harbor, on the other side of the island is a great place to sit and watch all the private boats and enjoy the scenery. Simply driving the island is very nice also.

Before you leave make sure you have batteries for your camera. The area is beautiful, and even if by chance you don't see any whales, the landscape is gorgeous.
If you are heading out in the morning, layer your clothing. It has been above 80 degrees for the last 24 days, but the mornings have still been cool, esp out in the waters. I would recommend a t-shirt of sorts, bring a light weight sweater or a pull over jacket, and just in case, because clouds are starting to build from the North, a poncho or rain coat of sorts. Bring an extra pair of socks with you in case you get wet. Wear sneakers not sandals.
Binoculars are also an excellent idea. Bring a laid back easy going attitude, sit back, relaxxxxxxx and enjoy. You are in for an awesome outing.
There are many great little cafe's and espresso as well. You may want to bring a thermos of coffee or... perhaps a snack.
