Try Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay and Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz.
Dexter is the serial killer of serial killers, that is, his prey is other serial killers. Quite a bit of dark humor in it. Lindsay avoids most plot cliches until the very last chapter, then he lets them drop all at once.
Odd Thomas (his given name) sees ghosts, including Elvis, around him. The dead can't speak, but they want to communicate. He also sees 'bodachs,' inky demonic creatures that are drawn to places of future disaster, and lately, the bodachs have been about.
