I am christian and have been believer for 21 years and I know without a doubt that I have a soul and becuase of that I also know there is a loving God who has given me the choice to be with him when I die in heaven or in hell if I choose not to believe in Him.Now I would like get some answers to what an athesist believes happens to them when they die.Seems sad to think that some people would devalue themselves by believing they do not posses a soul.

Firstly I would like to say that if you find comfort from your faith, that's brilliant - I would never want to detract from that. From the atheist point of view, you're born, you live your life (hopefully honestly and compassionately), and you die. The body is a living organism that has a finite lifespan. Nothing more, nothing less. An atheist does not recognise 'a soul', and therefore would not understand how they could be 'devaluing' themselves for this lack of recognition. I guess you could say that people are a sum of their life, love and behaviour. These things are what make someone valuable, not the concept of a doctrine or religion. Hope that helps :)

I am sorry I have to say this is a typically unthinking, dogmatic Christian question!!!

Atheism is simply non believe in or the rejection of the belief in God. It does not mean that they do not believe in an after life. Many I am sure think that they will go on to become another higher life form, others that think they will return to earth as an animal or some such and many of course think that when the light goes out it stays out.

Stop being holier than thou and learn a little humility. The vast majority of atheists and thinking people believe in your freedom to believe and worship God. Why Oh why can you not offer them the same freedom??????

Heaven or hell? With your attitude - better get some asbestos slippers!!!!!!

As I see it, when you die, you simply cease to exist. That's all there is to it.

I don't know about souls, but I can assure you that I'm a person. Most likely my consciousness is a product of being alive, much like the light in a lamp is the product of the electricity being turned on. If someone flicks a switch, the lamp goes out, but that doesn't mean there wasn't electricity in the lamp while it was turned on.

Where does the "soul" go when you die? Probably the same place that electricity goes when you turn off a lamp. However, while I'm alive, I have every bit as much of a "soul" (for lack of a better word) as you do.

just because you are a believer doesnt make you right, it just makes you a believer.........as for devalue........last i heard, and this was some years ago the human body was worth about 12.80 in chemicals or something like that. sure it s worth more now, and some of our parts are worth a hole lot on the black market. whats the big deal with accepting that there is nothing after this.......i enjoy my life just fine without having to think that there is something more when i die..........personally i think all religions were thought up as a convenient way for someone to explain the unexplainable and an easy ticket to food and riches for the otherwise lazy and parasitic jerk with a gift of gab and one heck of an imagination. remember....all religions were thought up back when people didnt know what lightning, thunder, sun and moon or stars were, didnt know why it rained or snowed or why plants grew. some smart lazy a** got a free ticket by jumping up and down threatening his ignorant clan or tribe or whatever that they were doomed to die unless they gave him things so that he could talk to the gods and keep them pacified. talk about a number one scam...........with all you millions of suckers out there these religions prospered and are now worth millions to even billions.........just so you can feel justified for being here

I don't know what happens when i die, and i dont worry about it.

Why do the worlds religions have an obsession with life after death? 'You'll go to heaven when you die' and the liek just show you guys to be concerned with dying, rather then living your life to its full today.

You don't KNOW you have a soul and that the biblegod exists; you BELIEVE.

KNOWING requires evidence.

And you have none.
