It sounds like a big-band old time kinda thing...been trying to find it but can't.

It was for his play about bonnie and clyde at the end, when the cops in the play make them sing a song to prove they're musicians.

yup it was "Summertime" by George Gershwin.. i loved that part of the movie, it was performed so well :)
