S's never meet. So if you've used Sir/Madam at the top then use faithfully, but if you know their name then use sincerely...

Lily

Yours faithfully is mostly used or only used when writing Business or 'formal' letters and I wouldnt recomend it for 'ínformal' or love or friendly letters although it suggests something positive.

Yours sincerely is best used also in the same situation as the above but there are few who may use it for informal letters

Have fun......

Sincerely if you use a name, faithfully if you don't.

Remember it by:-

Sincerely - Someone
Faithfully - F*** All

Bit crude but makes it easy to remember.

yours sincerely when you don't know someone. I'd never use use faithfully as it is very out-dated.

I seldom use both these days, usually I go with yours truly or regards.
But I like to end it with:

Cheers

PS: I think some answers above have explained it perfectly.
