Just get the very best rest the day before. Since you have to fast you'll feel weak and if you are already rested before you go under then waking up won't be as hard. Wear your favorite pajamas there and go home in the same thing. And never be too proud for the pain meds. They help and you'll need help resting once the surgery is done.

Stay hydrated the day before, so they can find a good place to put your IV in. You don't want to have them poking you a bunch of times...it's really not that fun.

I would also wear comfy clothes and socks to the hospital. Everytime I've ever been in the hospital, my feet are freezing.

And don't be afraid to ask the nurses what they are doing during your pre-op, and don't be afraid to tell them if you need somthing or if you are uncomfortable.

Good luck, and I hope you sail thru smoothly.

I am a physician. The procedure is what is termed 'major' surgery but actually it is simple. There will be only some minor pain after surgery and mild pain relievers will be effective. Yopu will be in the hospital only a short time and encouraged to resume normal life to reduce any chance of blood clots. Your physician and the nurses will advise you on vaginal discharge after surgery...it depends on the invasiveness of the surgery. No sweat!

Get out of bed after surgery just as soon as you can. Walk the halls, walk around your room. The quicker you get mobile, the sooner you will feel better. It's the ones that stay in bed, doped up on pain meds that get paralyzed bowels, pnuemonia and have longer stays in the hospital as a result. So grit your teeth, take your pain med and get out of that bed just as fast as you can.
