It is stupid and petty.
Have to say though that I don't have a problem being called British, but that is a different issue. I have a sneaky feeling that the Irish,Welsh and Scots all think that British means English!
I am heartily sick of having to tip toe around so as not to offend people who would probably not be offended in the first place!
My father had a friend who was absolutely coal black. One of the nicest men I have ever met and he always used to say that he was a "Proud Black Man". Kind of think he might be afraid to say it if he were around now!
I know that over the years I have been refered to as the "Ghurey" -(whitey), by people in the Asian community who don't know my name. So what? I am white!Well deathly pale most of the time at least.
Any word can cause offence if you want to take it. I am sick of adults not behaving like adults and the so called political correctness mirrors that exactly.
Still it cannot kill me, so I will just content myself with a good grump about it!

As far as the rainbow sheep go, you are certainly right.
But for the second part - you might not be conscious of the fact that this "Britishness" was invented by the English to keep the Scottish and Welsh people quiet at a time when they did have no say at all in their own affairs and everything was dictated by central gouvernment. As you have rightly pointed out, most Scots and Welsh don't buy it anyway.
But in that case you English only reap what your ancestors once sowed.

the reason's for changing to rainbow sheep is because the black sheep shouldn't be singled out. okay, so what happen's when homosexuals don't want the rainbow sheep singled out?
it's changing the little things like that that upsets me. children's stories. ordering from restaurants. none of these things have racial connotations. they weren't create with race, ethnicity in mind. and since when did we have to tread on eggshells for others? if one spineless bastard finds the term 'black coffee' offensive (ironically, it was probably a white person) so what? in life, you're going to be offended by something at some point. apparently piggy banks are wrong in some circles now because it might be offensive to muslims. give me an f'in break

I think some of the things that are done in the name of political correctness are plain daft. No-one wants to deliberately upset anyone but not being able to use the word 'black' when the item it describes is clearly black is verging on lunacy. E.g. what's wrong with 'blackboard' ? - it's a board and it's black!!
Thankfully, I think most rational people pay no heed to all this 'political correctness gone mad'!!

i think we should drop the 'p' and try and be 'c'. The old guard have offended so many people in the past with their incorrectness that they r over compensating wit this p.c. The best thing a racist can do is be open with their views so that it can be challenged diplomatically with hard scientific facts. It would do a lot more for race relations than stepping on egg shells. P.s Toastie you sound as if your scrumptious, maybe sometime in the future..........

Yes i agree PC is taking over the world. Why cant we have a black coffee or anything else. Most of PC is attempting to stop us using phrases or common words that have nothing to do with racism or sexism. Is there anyone that would be offened if i asked for a black coffee?

I'm American and we haven't gone as far with the PC crud here as it seems they have in Europe. I do think it's funny that here in the States we have racially oriented events/holidays like Black History Month and "Juneteenth" which are fine but there's no White History Month or "Celebrate Anglo Culture Day" and anyone who would suggest it would be called racist. Why is it if you're White you're supposed to be ashamed of your heritage? My ancestors were northern European (England, Scotland, Germany and France...) but if I take any interest or pride in my heritage that somehow makes me a racist?
It's also OK in this country to make fun of poor White people and call them crackers and rednecks and trailer trash but if you make fun of Black people or Hispanics or Asians, you're a racist.
I don't condone racism in any form, but it seems that racism is OK as long as you are lampooning White people.
I will also add that it seems like people can't take a joke anymore. What used to be levity and a little harmless fun- you can't make any kind of reference to race or gender or even sexual orientation without danger of offending someone- unless you are making a reference to crackers, rednecks or trailer trash....and that's supposed to be OK. I personally don't take offense at cracker, redneck or trailer trash jokes, but turn about is fair play. If Whitey can take a joke why can't everyone else?

particular it has long gone too a strategies. ok in keeping with risk Rosie's fact became a splash plenty, yet human beings unquestionably need to recover from it. There are plenty greater significant issues to fret approximately. that is attending to the element the place our language is starting to be distorted via fact maximum of words are being considered as "politically incorrect." apart from being overly malicious or intentionally biting, human beings ought to have the skill to call issues as they're with out being ripped aside. I see too many human beings crying like 5-year-olds (no offense to any 5 year-olds who may be examining this :p) over issues that quite do not rely interior the grand scheme of issues.

The world's gone mad. Political correctness offends more people than it comforts! Gone is common sense and a responsibility for one's self, in is blanket control and the nanny state. Let's get shot of PC and bring back good manners!
