Dylan is an untalented writer. Anyone who has tried to read `Tarantula´will agree with this.
While the songs with ´surreal´ lyrics are usually just annoying and unfunny, the ones with ´political´ lyrics are pretentious. Take ´Blowin´in the Wind´: Dylan wants cannonballs ´forever banned´. But when were they partially banned? And why was that partial ban lifted? And quite whom should they be banned by?
Dylan is fond of quoting or mentioning great writers, such as Eliot, or Fitzgerald (as in Ballad of a Thin MAn), but one has to wonder if he´s ever read them? It seems more likely that he´s just name-dropping.
One can cary on and on like that with Dylan lyrics. He is really a rotten songwriter and only by the very low standards of protest rock can he be taken at all seriously.
And he is a poor performer too: he really cannot sing to save his life~that nasal whine of his is incredibly unatttractive.
Why can´t he just be shot like that other 60´s loser, Lennon?

Roxy Music, Leonard Cohen, Joy Division, Bowie, Nick Drake all make the preposterous leader of the corney Rolling Thunder Tour sound like a drivelling phoney.

errrr helloooooo..... scuse me while i laugh! bob dylan is a lyrical poet, along with joan biez, joany mitchell and donavan. He has influenced many from jimmy hendrix to the beatles. Have you never heard "just like a woman" and "like a rolling stone" that song for me is one of the most powerful songs ever...
However, unfortunately your opinion is shared by many and this leads me to believe the youth of today do not appreciate the true talents of writers who want to make a difference and want to sing about topics that actually mean something.
But you are entitled to your own opinion, but I suggest you look behind the lyrics for the deeper meaning. and OMG dont get me started on you little dig at (THE GREATEST) John Lennon!!!!!!
And just one last thing (I promise) without Bob would there be the freedom of speech that exists within music today??

i'm sorry to assert this, yet Jim Morrison replaced into an fool. maximum of what he wrote or stated replaced into written in a state of drunkenness, while Dylan took his lyrics from people thoughts, actual interactions with people, nature and emotions. no longer LSD and pork 'n' Beans. And besides, Bob Dylan makes you sense stable once you hear, and Morrison basically makes you gloomy.

I disagree.
I think his lyrics are great and stand the test of time. His voice is unique but I grant not the most melodic in the world.
I wonder who you rate, lyrically and will anyone still be listening to them in 20 years time?
I thought he was cool in the 1970s and have recently started listening to him again.
I love SLOW TRAIN ...

You sound really jealous... stop shiting all over people who defined an era of music, because it wouldnt be the same without their influences despite what you think, be a bit more open minded... ps Lennon was a lyrical genius

You know what, my favorite artist mentions him over and over and over in his interviews. He describes Dylanism in his songwriting and says that we will hear it in his (Enrique Bunbury) new album and have heard it throughout his new stuff. Still, I don't really feel the need to check out his stuff. You must have liked it at some point though right?

A halfway valid question was well on it's way until the final words when....the total destruction of any credibility occurred. The five second rule applies here and time's up.

because he's an incredible lyricist and melodist. Seriously, I'm blown away by his talent every time i sit down and listen to him.
His voice is great, its not awesome, calling him a poor performer belies your musical ignorance.

I have never understood the attraction but during the 60's all the great singer songwriters where so stoned that they where thought to be geniuses. when in reality they where hacks that only stoners could really take seriously or even understand.
