Iran & Taliban in Afghanistan = Islamic religious fundamentalist,
Neo Conservatives and Mid America = Christian Fundamentalists
Do you think as these two fundamentalist religious entities have so much in common that we the middle of the road, tolerant and patriotic people suffer?
Lets take a look..
They hate same sex relationships,
They don't believe in the right of women to choose,
They hate minorities,
Only they are right and everybody else is wrong.

As far as your analysis of fundamentalists is right on, I think you are a bit off to link middle America in that group. Most of middle America is simply apathetic, trying to do there jobs make ends meet and raise their children the best way they know how.

Great question and estute analysis, I agree with you. Extremeists of ANY kind scare me, you illustration of the Taliban and NEOCONS is proof of how polarization occurs and thus conflict and hate increases.
