It depends on how you transfer audio from your iTunes library to your iPod. My library is smaller than my iPod video's storage space, so I've got it set to simply synchronize the library with the iPod, including any videos. If your library is larger than your iPod's capacity, or you wish to be more selective about what you put on your iPod, then you can select what is brought over to your iPod by connecting your iPod to your computer, opening iTunes, and going to Preferences (your iPod has to be connected to change these settings)--you can choose to synchronize certain playlists, or do everything manually.
