All I can think of is that, for these people, thinking is just too much work. And the first conclusion that pops into their heads is the only one they are willing to consider.

i have often thoguht this too.

i put it down to a lack of ability to
1) understand what the **** they are on about in the first place
2) just completely lack any sense of logic
3) not understand the meaning of the word empathy or influence

Stupid people tend to lack education. They tend to only look at things from their point of view instead of a more worldly view.

They do not want things to change, this would require work to change their knowledge. I believe the biggest cause of stupidity and close mindedness is laziness.
These people are to lazy to educate themselves on subjects.
It is far easier to put your thoughts out their and say everyone else is wrong.

So the root problem to stupidity is in laziness.

hmm talk about reviewing opinions objectively...
different people, different back grounds - different objectives
different people, different levels of intelligence - different opinions

Even when there is debate among people of equal level and thorough understanding .....
Sometimes people have strange ideas / opinions for the sake of being different - unique, special, creative, and just for the sake of arguement. Even when deep in their honest hearts they know that their proposed idea is absurd. What can you do?
I say - Ok you are right. bye bye.

The reason for this is both simple and sad. To be objective, you need to step outside of your immediate personal point of view. This requires a certain amount of intelligence to do.

Because if they looked at their opinions objectively, they would not be so stupid.

If they are truly stupid...not ignorant or arrogant. That may be the answer, just that they are stupid or unintellegent.
