Could be a number of things:
Overheating (Check with SpeedFan)
Not enough hard drive space (Check through My Computer)
Not enough RAM (Check through Performance tab in Task Manager)

Check those first.

i'm going to take a guess that this is a new thing otherwise it wouldnt be bothering you. you could be running low on resources because of too many programs running in the background.

(assuming you are running windows xp)

start by cleaning out your msconfig. a lot of programs like to store themselves in there. click on start/run type in msconfig. when the system utility configuration window comes up click on the startup tab at the end across the top. uncheck anything that is NOT your antivirus or firewall. click apply and close. it will ask you to restart. after restarting the computer it will come back up saying that you have made changes. check the box and tell it ok, go away..lol. then go to http://www.lavasoft.com and get adaware SE personal. install it, update it, and run it. you can also go to http://www.spybot.com and get the free spybot. install, update, run. if for some reason you dont have an antivirus program you can go to http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl... and download the avg free edition. it is easy to use. install, update, run. just to finish things off you might as well defragment your computer while youre at it. start/all programs/accessories/system tools/ disk defragmenter. now open an internet explorer window. on the top toolbar click on tools, then internet options. click on delete cookies and delete files....delete history too if you want to. if you still cant open more than 2 windows then i would have to say you either dont have enough ram or your harddrive is too full.

It could be related to spyware or hardware. Does it lock up if the system just sits there or only on the net? If only the net then you most likely have spyware. Try running Spybot and Virus programs.

If it locks up when it is just sitting there look inside the case (with the computer off) to see if there is dust & stuff builted up. If your blowdryer has a cool sitting you can use it to blow it out. Take it outside first.. You'll be surprised on how much stuff is in there.

Down-load, Firefox browser ! Use IE only when it's necessary. Firefox, has tabbed browsing and a ton of free extensions and plug-ins.. why anyone still uses IE is beyond me ... using Firefox, you should be able to open as many windows as you care to . ( if you have enough RAM )

I presume you mean windows on your pc, not the bathroom and kitchen window

This could be down to many reasons, too little RAM, crap processor, something else

get it looked at by someone you know
