my bf was an alcoholic the only thing that stopped him was finding out he'd die by christmas time because of it and this was just after we'd started going out and since he was starting to recover from his past downward spiral, he gave it up....was tough though and still is.
The only thing you can do is be there for them really...sorry cant be of much help

hope the alcohol has not already effected their comprehension and their ability to rationalise. if so you are on a sticky wicket, quite often the return is very very hard, especially if the person has now gravitated towards only other persons, who are alcohol abusers. in that case ,you will be struggling. but if the person admits, sees that the problem is screwing his life and family, there is hope, and he may live beyond 60. push councilling again, do you know why he drinks, what has made him want to black it all out. above all, look after yourself, and the family, do not let his chosen road destroy others as well as himself.t

you can't help someone who doesn't want help, or doesn't admit to a problem. you can learn to take care of yourself, by going to al-anon.
after a little counseling for everyone who is being affected, an intervention has helped people to admit they have a problem. But most people in recovery will tell you they had to reach a "bottom"
before they admitted they needed help.
the "ism" is also known as the disease of denial.
good luck and god bless!

Sit them down and explain to them how you feel and how everyone else feels. But not making him/her feel guilty, instead you want to show how much everyone cares for him/her. Then you may need professional help as well. Its a difficult problem and wont be solved over night.

I nearly imploded on alcohol myself, I could never admit I had a problem until I tried to get in a car to drive and my Friends had to beat me with a stick to stop me.
Trust me when I say you have to force some people in to rehab for their own good before they kill themselves or worse still someone else. Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind.
Sorry to hear about your Friend, but I have been there and am grateful to mine for making me see the light. x

Everybody has to confront this person while they are sober, get video footage to show them what they get up to while drunk and the hurt they cause. Give a bit of tough love

Try this book called "The easy way to quit drinking" by Allen Carr. He is a very good author. I read his book on the easy way to quit smoking and did it!! He uses a very possoive approach.

Unless they are willing to admit there is a problem themselves then there isnt really anything u can do for them except support them. try to get them to talk about what troubles them as sometimes this can help

If they don't see them having a problem you can't make them see it. It's only up to the individual to get help. Good luck.

if they can't or won't see they have a problem, then you are on a losing battle. its when they can see that they themselves have a problem and want to do something about it, then you help them if you've stuck around!!
