It's not just single moms. It's the middle class. The more money you make, the more you can invest. Investments like real estate and IRA's offer tax breaks. Paying rent doesn't, although childcare expenses are tax deductible and child support is not considered income, so those are two positives. The system, unfortunately, is set up to make it harder and harder for the poor and middle class to gain any solid ground. If you do any research into original legislation for this country, you will see that the rich (land owners) have always felt and made sure through legislation that the poor and middle class don't cross over.

Because they have more work to do than time. They have 2 full time jobs, one costs a lot, the other probably doesn't pay a lot. Want a way out? Find some way to increase your income (possibly through education).

I would consider being an office manager / secretary. Anything to get your foot in the door to the professional world (assuming you aren't already there). The office manager in the small business where I work is a single mother with a HS education and she makes more than I do because she handles a lot of the nuts and bolts of keeping our business afloat. Become indespensible to someone with a lot of money.

I know that it's tough being a parent, especially a single parent, but you get a tax deduction for each child. In addition, your kids get free education for 13 years. It's the people with no children who are taxed to death, and they help pay for your kids' educations.

No one said that life would be easy. As I said, being a parent is a hard job but it is a choice you made.

depends on the amount that the single PARENT makes per year. Then with the additional child tax credit about $1000 per child is given every year, along with the Earned income credit. that can be up to a couple of thousand dollars. all withheld money is returned and nothing in actual income tax dollars is paid. This makes not understand what your actually getting at.

They get taxed based upon how much they make, not by their family situation. They also get child tax credits and a deduction for child care. If you feel you are taxed to death, consult an accountant, maybe he can set you up an IRA or get you a Earned Income Credit.

You're being punished for being a single mother. Sex out of wedlock is a sin. You need to find a husband and father for that child.

Because thanks to the Bush administration, the rich do not pay their fair share of taxes. They have all kinds of dodges and loopholes.
