There are plenty of images from Ancient Roman times which can give you some idea of what people looked like. Here's a site where you can see some of the murals from Pompeii which depict ancient Romsn citizens.

The ancient Romans looked very much like contemporary Italians. There was much migration into Rome at the apex of the Roman Empire. The various nationalities helped create the diverse nation that is today Italy.
PS - I like Isadora's suggestion thta you view a movie from the time of ancient Rome. Finding an ancient Roman DVD player could be a bit tough though.

It depends on what part of the Roman Empire you're talking about. It ranged from England to Western Africa, across Europe, the Middle East, Turkey, and Egypt. The people of all of these areas were Romans, and many were Roman citizens, so they would have looked like the native populations in all of these areas. For the Romans you're probably thinking of, in what is now Italy, they would have looked like any other Italian you would see now.
