So do i need a microphone? and what else do i need? sorry if this sounds like a dumb question, but im getting used to using the computer and i dont know much about it.

Why don't you just download skype and read the FAQ's?
If you have a logitech webcam you can use that as well. The good logitech cams have a built in mic.
Headset most probably the way to go though and very cheap.
Most even tell you where to plug it into your computer.

You just need a microphone and speakers...also a broadband Internet connection (DSL, Cable, etc). It would work better if you got a headset...that way there won't be an echo from the speakers.
