well, the name "latin" comes from an area named "latium" in italy, just around rome. This is where the original inhabitants of Rome came from. It is hard to tell anyway where the empire started from. It all started with Aeneas, who fought in the Trojan war. ;) and his succesors finally put the basis of Rome, which in the beginning was purerely and solely a city-state, but gained a lot of teritorry after fighting its neighbours.

The Greeks ruled the world under Alexander the Great (356BC-324BC).However he died of the effects of malaria and the empire was split between four generals or commanders. Before the Roman Empire was the Roman Republic. It was subverted through several civil wars. The Roman State describes the time during and after the first emperor Augustus. The change from Republic to Empire involved three events: l.) The appointment Of Julius Caesar as perpetual dictator in 44BC 2,)The Battle of Actium (2 September 31BC) 3.)the Roman Senate granting to Octavian honorific AUGUSTUS (4 January 27BC) The empire reached a zenith under Emperor Trajan when it controlled 6.5 million km. The Roman Empire collapsed in 476AD as Romulus Augustus was forced to abdicate by Odoacer . The Eastern Roman Empire lasted until 1453AD with the death of Constantine XI and the capture of Constantinople by the Ottoman Turks and Mehmed II So, in summary it was 44BC to 476AD. I hope this helps!
