If it's their own pet its because they have become part of the family and no one wants to let go of a family member. If it's just protestors, it's because they haven't been able to grow up and get a real job so they smoke pot and protest things all day to stay away from being a productive citizen.

Hi,
Death is terrible no matter how it happens. I guess the thought of putting down a beloved pet must be awful. Right now you can play with your pet and hug it etc. When it goes you can no longer do that, you just have the memories. I guess you know that you are not just putting down the pet you are also saying goodbye to all the times you could have had in the future. I think it is good and right to end suffering. However, I can fully understand why people get upset.

Well, if it's their pet, they are sad they have to say goodbye, just like when a person dies. As for other peoples pets, and pound puppies/kitties, a lot of those animals could get better with treatment, which pounds etc can't afford. Sometimes people also get upset because owners can't afford treatment. I cry at work everytime an animal is put to sleep because the owner can't afford treatment. 3 month old puppies with broken legs, euthanized because the owner can't afford the $500 to fix the leg.

I get annoyed because it is an easy out. Many many people rich and poor instead of properly caring for their animals. They choose the easy out which is put it to sleep and get another pet.
When animals are injured people are a little to quick to put them to sleep "because they are suffering" Well I think getting hit by a car hurts. It is going to take time to heal and get over that. Easy out put them to sleep.
And I'm not saying spend all your money. But if you can afford the extra care do it. And give the animal time to heal before making a quick decision.
As far as putting strays to sleep. I think a free spay neuter program will help. I say free because no matter how cheap it is some people rich and poor are not going to spend the money to get their animal fixed.

If their your pet, it's because their part of your family. You never want to see a family member die.
Our cat is extremely sick at the moment and we had to up his medicine. We're giving him a day or so to see if he gets better and if he doesn't, we're going to get him put down. We don't want to because we love him and have had him since he was a kitten. But, we can see that he's suffering and don't want that either.
As for animals in the pound, I find it upsetting because sometimes if someone could afford it, they would be fine after a medical treatment. If I could, I would take them all home.

If you are talking about their own personal pet.To some people who have no children to them their pets are their kids. And to lose one is very hard for them.I know that I get very attached to my pets and when one passes on I am very sad.But if you are talking about pets who are in the pound.Well if people would quit breeding unwanted litters of puppies and kittens we wouldn't have this problem now would we.You need to spay and neuter your pets, and I feel that if you can't afford the expenses that come along when you get a pet then you don't need one. There are way to many animals that are in need of a home, and that is because humans are not doing their part to control the overpopulation of all animals.

Some people have no clue, they just focus on the fact that the animal is going to be killed! I wish they could feel the pain of the owner who has to put down a pet , it is not easy nor is it taken lightly, but it is a necessary function to end the suffering.

I can't speak for others but I have wrestled with this a bit myself. Well, I should say I have wrestled with the question of unwanted animals who languish in shelters, etc.
If an animal is suffering then it is often best that they be put down. Still, it's rough. Like yourself I love animals and even knowing it may be for the best it's still difficult. An animal is still dying. I think sometimes people lose sight of what is best for the animal in question. It's very easy to focus on saving them and keeping them alive. It is much harder to determine when it is best to put one down.

It's the fact that something has passed on. If it's thier pet that was really close and loved, people tend to feel that they will never see them again. They are sad that thier pet will not be there after work, school, or when they wake up.

They don't think about it, I guess. When the alternative is an animal suffering and not understanding why, the humane thing is to end it. If you can end the suffering without him dying, obviously you do that. If you can't, let him go. It's so much kinder.
