Here are golden rules, though may be difficult for first few days. I implemented these and am now much enjoying with my 2 yr old baby.
Rule#1 : Make sure baby is dry and well fed throughout the night.
Rule#2 : Whenever baby wakes up during night, DO NOT talk to him.
Rule#3 : Do not swicth on lights when he wakes up in night.
Rule#4 : Do not make any eye contact with him, even if youhave to change nappy etc.
Rule#5 : Never ever lift him up to soothe him during night.
Bottom line is, the baby should understand that once it is dark, it is long sleep time. And babies learn fast. In first few days, everything will settle and you live happily ever after.

Unfortunatly hun.. babies will only sleep and wake when they want to! I had the same problem with my daughter and I was starting to look like a zombie! Lol It depends on what you'd like to try? I used to leave the TV on at night but with barely any sound and sheilded the light from it away from my baby,I dont know why but she seemed more settled by me doing that! Just dont let your baby get used to the TV being on so maybe only leave it on a few times through the week? Otherwise hun, there really is'nt much you can do! Best of luck x

I have a 4 week old, and I have heard it all. I was told by one lactation consultant that with babies, sleep means more sleep so keeping him up can lead to being overly tired (I'm on the fence with this though). She also told me wake the baby every 2-3 hrs and follow this routine: Play/Diaper then Eat then sleep again. It worked for me for a week. My secret is I let him sleep on his tummy. I know they say back to sleep but he startles himself awake and this is the only way we can both get some rest.

That guy was rude...
Anyway,
Youcould try feeding her a little more, maybe its that she wakes up because she is still hungry... I remember those first couple of weeks man I was so tired...I finally looked at my husband...who got plenty of sleep! and cried IM SO TIRED!!!!!!!! he just said...well dummie...go take a nap! ha ha man!
Well. Hope this helps a bit! Hang in there it will get better, in the mean time make sure you have plenty of help from parents family and friends so you do not get frustrated and too tired to function!

My son slept longer in his carseat than in his crib. So that's where he slept for the first month of his life. he liked being snug, and being upright helped his digestion as well.
Also, this is key: swaddle. And I mean tight. I had a nurse show me how and I was surprised at how firm the swaddle was. But he loved it. When they're little they don't have control of their arms and hands. So they'll be asleep and their little arms will jerk and they'll hit themselves in the head. Imagine that, you're fast asleep and something hits you in the face! I'd cry too! The swaddling prevents that from happening. Get the swaddleMe blanket. It's awesome, and easy to use.
Good luck.

Are you breast feeding or formula feeding? Formula is heavier on the baby's stomach and will keep them full longer. I know a lot of moms that only formula feed at night. Or you can put cereal into the Breast Milk bottles (ask pediatrician about that though).

try to keep the baby up longer during the day, by playing with the baby. and before you put your baby to bed give the baby a warm bath and then feed the baby ( if you feed your baby formula make sure its warm) also swaddle them before you put the baby to bed. this will help the baby feel secure.

I would try a little rice cereal in their bottle. I did with mine and she has been sleeping all night. Your baby may not be getting full. I know they say to wait, but just add a very little. not even a tablespoon,

Swaddle. I hope this is the correct expression, I found it in a rather old dictionary. Maybe your baby is restless and to swaddle him can help him relax. I work at a day care center and we've done it with restless babies. They really calm down. You have to ask someone who knows what they're doing to show you how to do it though. So you'll swaddle him/her the right way. Ask a nurse or someone who works with babies.
