I squeezed the juice down the sink side and put the peels down the disposal side. I've done this a few times, but I still have the smell. Any ideas on what else I can do?

Try running hot water, then dump a box of baking soda into the drain. let it sit for a bit and then pour in about two cups of white vinegar. It makes kind of a volcano effect but grabs odors as it bubbles. Let it do it's thing for about five minutes and then run hot water.

use clorox...then you'll have another smell to get rid of....open the windows and do a lot of rinsing.

I can tell you what "I" do, but I wouldn't recommend it. I have a sink disposal and I make sure the electric is off (turn it off at the box and test it first), and stick my hand down into the grinder and pull out the crud, then I clean "under" the black rubber catchall with bleach. Then I pour bleach down there and the smell goes away. The one problem is making sure the electricity is off so you don't lose a hand, and the other problem is that a mixture of bleach plus dishwashing solution is a bad mixture and can knock you out if you breathe it.). But, that's how I take care of the smells. I suppose lysol would work just as well, or some other cleaning luquid like Mr. Clean.

1)If the smell is from your sink drain, you may have some food down there. If the bleach doesn't work, you may need to think along the lines of Drano to break down whatever is there. After it does it's job, what is down there may pass.

2) If the smell is coming from your disposal that is even easier. To clear up the disposal all you need to do is drop in about 5-6 cups of crushed ice. Do that twice, it also helps to clean your disposal blades.

Good Luck!

Have you tried baking soda? Try making a solution of it consisting of one part baking soda to two parts water and pour it down the drain with the garbage disposal on.

If that does not work, you might want to try one of those drain-o type products (there are some safe for garbage disposals) since there is probably grease or some other kind of food product down there causing the smell.

I pour bleach with flower smell down my drain once a week.

Keeps the bad smell out of the disposal also you can use ice to sharpen the blades in the disposal side to keep all the food out.

There are some citrus based pipe cleaning products that work pretty well, vinegar also cuts through the build up.....I can't seem to find anything that last more than a few months but I guess if our pipes are old, regular maintenance every few months shouldn't piss us off so, but it sure does me. The key is in letting it run through slowly so that it has contact with the sides of the pipe longer.

Might have a handyman remove the u-joint and check to see if something is lodged and rotting there.

If you put Draino, lye or bleach down your pipes, don't put it in your garbage disposer. Also be aware those chemicals EAT your pipes.

Don't leave those corrosive chemicals sitting in your pipes for more than a few minutes. Then you will need to FLUSH, FLUSH, FLUSH to get that stuff beyond your housepipes and into the city sewer pipes out under the street.

I like the Pepsi idea.

People sure don't hesitate with the chemicals here do they?

You probably need to get whatever stinks OUT before you worry about covering up the surface smell, as I'm guessing it will continue to smell if not dislodged.

Please don't use Draino, OXY or bleach etc - think of the fishies!
Hmmmm, will Pepsi rot the fish? How will the jellyfish respond to vinegar?
