An average banana weighs 125 g. By mass, a banana is 75% water and 25% dry matter. Let's assume that the dry mass is entirely fructose, C6H12O6. That's certainly not true, but it's unlikely that we can find a better assumption that isn't overly complicated. So we have 93.75 g H2O and 31.25 g C6H12O6. H2O (3 atoms) has a molecular mass of 2*1 + 16 = 18 g/mol. C6H12O6 (24 atoms) has a molecular mass of 6*12 + 12*1 + 6*16 = 180 g/mol. So we have 93.75 / 18 = 5.21 mol H2O and 31.25 / 180 = 0.17 mol C6H12O6. A mole is a quantity also known as Avogadro's number, and it's 6.022 x 10 ^23. Multiplying by the number of moles, we have 3.14 x 10^24 molecules of H20 and 1.05 x 10^23 of C6H12O6. Now, multiplying by the number of atoms in each and summing, we have 1.19 x 10^25 atoms. That's over ten septillion, or ten trillion trillion.

Depends on the size of the banana .. say the average size is 6 inches long. The answer then would be 1.2 Billion atoms. Good Luck ! :)

the atoms in a banana would be a less than Avogadro's #...about 600,000 billion billion atoms. For a simple atom like hydrogen, Avogadro's # of atoms would weigh 1gr. An Avogadro's # of oxygen atoms would weigh about 16 gr. An Avogadro's # of complex organic matter would weigh thousands of grams(pounds) or more than a banana.

What is average 6 inches? More pertinently you can have a banana split but not a split atom : )

it must be quite difficult to count them... but if you know exactly what atoms are included in a banana, and in what percentage each of them, what is the volume of each kind of atom and the volume of the banana, then it's quite easy to word it out!!!

You'll need a very powerful microscope to know that. besides... who would count that? each banana has different numbers of atoms. my suggestion is... JUST EAT IT! :p
