Kobe wore 2 numbers in high school, #33 and #24. He began his playing career at Lower Merion High wearing #24, but he switched to #33, which had been his fathers (Joe "Jellybean" Bryant") high school jersey number. So, he is indeed switching back to a number he wore in high school. But, it's also been reported that he chose 24 because it's his old number times the number of championships he has (8x3=24).

And really, anyone who truly believes Kobe's trying to "one up" LeBron and MJ (#23) by choosing #24 and doesn't think that has to be the silliest idea ever is dumber than a bag of hair, because, by that logic, any player sporting the #24, like Richard Jefferson, Antonio McDyess, Marvin Williams, Andre Miller, Desmond Mason, Mo Pete and several others, are all tryng to one up MJ and LeBron. Yesh, people, grow some common sense, why dontcha.

RE:
Why did NBA star Kobe Bryant change his jersey number from 8 to 24?

I can think of 3 reasons
1.) He doesn't realize he made #8 famous
2.) He's mad at Jordan because Jordan doesn't give him credit as being the best when that was obviously his idol.
3.)Because he has better memories being #24 before his rape charge.

I think #8 is a better # because it seems more unique while #24 seems like it in some way is focusing too much on Jordan. But in his defense at least he's not changing to 23.

I don't care what number he wears, as long as he's the same player. although, he doesn't look that bad as #24:http://media.sports.ign.com/articles/726...

by the way he wore #24 in high school as a freshmen and #33 when he was a senior! he also said he's changing his number because he multiplied his titles by his "old" #8: 8 x 3 = 24
but i also heard that its because he works on his game 24/7

how come nobody is talking about Amare changing his number from #32 to #1? you probably didn't even know that huh?

He says he's changing it back to his highschool number...But his high school number was 33. He's really doing it to "one up" Jordan and Lebron
