why do we not do the same for people? What is the difference-God said to love all creatures? I just saw my great aunt and she is dying and suffering even with Hospice care.

in the nursing field,i saw gr8 suffering-my synmpathies for what ur going thru.the problem with human euthanasia is the fear that doctors will extend these judgement calls even further, deciding who should live, and who should die.a general distrust, because such absolute power tends to go to peoples heads.most drs are ethical and compassionate, but some,if given freedom to make these decisions, might make the wrong ones.maybe certain races or features or conditions will be deemed "unfit",as in nazi times.think about it,in the 1950's(not all that long ago, really) 2 of my former patients were institutionalised FOR LIFE,because the dr.told the parents they were "hopelessly retarded".turns out, these patients were "slow",but plenty of people with the same iq range are able to work,marry,etc-in fact they were capable of having had full lives, but the thought at the time was"lets not even try-its hopeless".what if the prevailing thought had been"they'll never have a normal life, lets put them to sleep."we must find a way to alleviate the pain of the dying, without opening carte blache, the power to judge who should live and who should die.dna testing for potential diseases complicates matters still further-what if a test shows a baby will have ms or als at say,age 45.do we let the baby grow up and have a life,or do the drs say-"its kinder to terminate this person now, dont let them grow only to suffer and die at an early age." im not sure where i stand one side or the other on this debate, but i dont have all that much faith in human goodness...human history just doesnt bear it out.their are many good people, but the good are naive, they get swamped by those for whom power corrupts.....

Because people are just different then animals. I watched my father die in agony. You have no idea how hard that was. The thought crossed my mine that if he asked me to end it. . .would I? I don't think I could have. We all lived in misery for 2 years. We sat by him and loved him all we could. I have such sympathy for the people who actually do break down and help a loved one die. Are they right or wrong???? People are different. But who's to say when it's the right time. Who's going to jump the gun and euthanize someone too soon when they may come out of it? Who's going to euthanize someone just for the insurance money and then claim it was because they were suffering? Just too difficult.

Mmmm.....you bring up a great point, when you think of it that way is kind of true. But I guess with Humans and society it is considered a form of suicide - a deal breaker so to speak with God. You came here to earth as a contract with God, and so therefore when it is your time to go, then it is your time to go, but I can definitely see your point. However, with people on life support who are brain dead, I believe in taking them off of life support because they are already gone but it is not for me to judge people in pain and suffering with a disease that do not want to live, I DO think that they should try everything possible and necessary to relieve that pain if they can before making such a final decision only because of loved ones, family and friends. It is a taboo subject.

I'm sorry to hear bout your aunt. But I think people are indeed more cared-for as compared to animals...there are definitely more and better facilities to accomodate humans' needs than that of the animals and I really feel pity for them...
Just my point of view. ;>

People think its murder but I disagree.. I think a person who is dying and suffering should have the right to decide if they want to die.

i have thought about this myself. people are to love !but i don`t believe god wants things to be killed because he gave them life the same as us.he gave us the right to kill for food only!and jesus had to be tested when he died with all the pain he went through an the reward is life forever!this is extended to us also if we live according to his word. people needs to remember who gives us life, most have no reguard for life psalms37 is a good chapter to read for answers in the bible.
