I need the USA national average for cost of living expressed in dollars....?

To the first poster, an AVERAGE would be a sum of all the data streams and then division of that sum by the number of data streams. It doesn't matter whether it is in California or North Dakota or wherever, because in this case, each state would be a data stream and would affect the average but not BE the average.

Depends where in the USA lives. California it's a lot higher than Texas, or North Dakota!!

I don't think that any number has any real value. If there is an average it equals exactly what any given person earns. For some, it excees this value, for others, they earn somewhat more than total costs. But for most, "You want a little more, need a little less." It does not matter where live; cost of living = amount earned.

What inputs would you include in your "cost of living" calculation?
