Cost of building renovations?

I am thinking of buying a run down bungalow and want to know a 'ball park' figure (per sq meter or sq foot) for cost of such works.
The property is is Wiltshire.

New Heating (electric) £2-3K
New bathroom £3-5K
New Kitchen £3-6K
Windows about £600-700 ea

The cost of building an entire house from foundation to roof is fairly narrow - between £80 - 120K regardless of how big it is (2-6 bedrooms) so if you budgeted £80K you could demolish it and rebuild it.

It is also wise to speak to local builders as they may be too busy to help you if you are successful.

Use Yahoo property search to check the value of other houses in the street and area, this should help you set the maximum you are prepared to offer.

Obviously without the size of the house or details of what needs doing these are very rough estimates.

I know that in Ireland the typical cost of building work per square foot is about 90 to 150 Euros depending on the level of finish you want.

I'd expect to pay somewhere in the region of 40 or 50 sterling at the very minimun for it.Also be sure and speak to a quantity surveyor who can probably give you a ballpark figure for everything.

You don't give much information to go on. How's the heating and air? Is the plumbing okay? Is the wiring up to code? Do you just want to paint and fix the drywall or are you moving walls and replacing the flooring? How's the roof? What about appliances and fixtures? If the place is a total dump, try $40/sq. ft.

I am here in Washington, D.C. . I have 30 years of experience in the construction trades.As such, I can tell you that (at least for here) it can cost anywhere from $100 - $500 a squ. ft. to build, depending on the amenities wanted.
For a renovation ,I would estimate $17 - $125, again depending on want it is you want and NEED done.
