They have not explored the oceans thoroughly yet, that's for sure and who knows what may be lurking 20,000 leagues under the sea?

Life has been discovered in an incredibly wide variety of habitats on Earth. There are the well known creatures of land, the seas, and the skies. There are also an array of bizarre and little known creatures. Of particular note are Archaebacteria that were originally discovered in some of Earth's most extreme environments, containing either excessive heat or chemicals that were thought to preclude the presence of life. Another fairly recent discovery is the type of ecosystem that can develop around a hydrothermal vent, featuring unique organisms such as massive tube worms that can absorb chemical nutrition directly into their bodies.

There have been cases of life on earth...just not all of it appears intelligent at times.

Case in point: not to be mean to a previous answerer, but...

It is somewhat incorrect to use the term "league" to refer to ocean depth. The deepest point in the ocean is only approx 8 miles deep--are you ready, or only just a little less than 3 leagues deep. A league is equal to approx 3 miles. It is a unit of distance, yes, but usually refers to horizontal travel instead of vertical travels along the ocean. So, the term 20,000 leagues under the sea refers to a travel distance approx 60,000 miles long. It is improper or wrong to use it to refer to the downward direction.

If there isn't life on Earth, there wouldn't be any scientists and there wouldn't be you. So, what do you think?
