A good friend of mine currently lives in a smaller city, one in which he's been unable to find a good job using his degree (business marketing). He'd like to move to a different city - one in which he could use his degree, but his wife is obsessed with her own job in that small city and it unwilling to leave. She's also very cold and something of a bully about not leaving (from my own observation about the matter.)
So as he's been unable to find work, he's been stuck doing menial retail jobs and other things unrelated to his degree, and I can tell it's really beating him down.

What are your thoughts about this? How can I help advise him? What can he do in this situation?

have you ever seen the Godfather??well this was his advice to his weak a** godson, tell your friend to "be a man".do what is best for himself. why shouldn't he be all he can be ??go get the job of his dreams.that bit** of a wife will respect him more when he makes some decisions that will eventually prove to benefit them both.If not too bad for her.

He can always go and apply for a job in his field of degree outside the small city into a bigger city. The traveling back and forth could be a good thing for him, clearing his head as he is on his way to and from work, giving him time to think about his life, his wife, and his needs. If that is not an option, then I say that he make the decission for him and for his wife......... that he goes ahead and gets a job in a bigger city, pre-rent or buy a home there and tell his wife that its time for a change and he is ready to make some real money and upscale his life from the old life. She has two choices, go or not go....... if she loves him, then she will do this and she will go with him knowing that she too can make alot better money, or she will stay and continue her life as is, proving not to love him as much as he once thought she might. Either way..... they will be together and both of them be happy, or he gets his life back and the woman he is ment to be with will be right around the cornor waiting for him to run into her. Blessed be..... getting divorced and having the life you want is not a death sentence and doesn't sign over that life is over, its a new begining and one that can prove to be more then the life left behind.

Is there not a similar job she could do in a larger city? She might be afraid of change, and thus he would need to find a way to help her see that change would be good; twice as many friends, more income for more fun in life, etc.

what would she do if he was to tell her he was going to find work in the bigger city , and she could stay there and keep her present job ,, but he may have to stay out of the smaller town where she is more often then not so that he can work , and feel better about himself ?
if shes not willing to compermise to help better thier life togather , then he should tell her hes goin to do this for himself , and she can join him or she can stay there ,

Tell him to go to the store, buy a wooden cane and then go home and beat his wife into submission with it.
