There are often professional stores that refill cartridges. We have a chain in Texas call Cartridge World. They charge about $10 and a empty for a refilled one. They also guarantee they will work.
I bet you have something similar if you check the Yellow Pages.

Your first inclination to throw out the printer was right on the money.
Dell is the only place that sell Dell cartridges. Any other cartridges you purchase from any other source will be re-manufactured, which is little more than a fancy word for refilled. For the cost of a new set of cartridges you can hook yourself up with a nice little HP with cartridges that are available pretty much everywhere. They are great quality and have great customer support.

Dell is not the only place to get cartridges, but you must use cartridges made for a Dell printer. Lexmark cartridges will not work. They look the same and may even fit, but they won't work.
It's possible you just got a "tempermental" printer that won't take any other kind of cartridges. It sounds weird, but it can happen. Best bet is to just get a new printer, because in the long run it will be more economical than using a Dell. A lot of Dell printers are junk, so it's probably not worth the hassle of keeping yours.

this relies upon on the cartridge, on the style you will finally end up refilling it. you may ought to learn your printer cartridge, some use needles, some use different procedures, yet maximum refillable kits incorporate each little thing you like maximum frequently if you bought the astonishing kit on your ink cart. individually, i do no longer propose doing this, as you could finally end up with many issues consisting of your printer, and this will additionally void any guarantee you have got had on your printer. some motives to no longer try this, and another suggestions, are : in case you attempt to fill the cart your self, and you do no longer do it precise, you could injury your printer, and spend extra money than it replaced into to purchase that $35 cartridge, that's a rip off, yet rather is the perfect decision once you slender all of it the way down to the top. in case you do in spite of the fact that fill it precise, air can nevertheless creep back into the cartridge, and dry the ink out over a quick volume of time. in case you have made up your suggestions, and you will use refillable ink any further besides no remember what every person says, then purchase them already professionally carried out and crammed, so they're sealed precise and air can not get away. you need to purchase those for extra cost-effective than a million/2 the cost of a classic cartridge, yet ought to run right into a ink leak on the paper as quickly as in awhile. you additionally can purchase one extra printer,(considering that they're so low-priced now days) to coach your ink refills on, and keep yet another printer for important paintings, so which you will no longer waste lots ink on the $35 cartridge printer. one extra option, and likewise stable for a 0.33 option, is get a dot matrix printer for printing basically text cloth purely, the ink lasts an exceedingly long term. stable luck!

Well Dell uses Lexmark printers so it should accept Lexmark cartridges. Just do a search on the model number of your printer to find out what type of cartridge you need.
Lexmark is one of the worst brand names for printers so throwing it away might not be a bad idea. HP, Epson, and Canon all make better printers.

You will have that experience with most if not all brands of printers. The original ink is always the best. Using refills are always at your own risk. It may sometimes work but it could also ruin your printer.
