Tough choice. The island offers me privacy, away from those despicable human beings. However, jail would be a more pleasurable experience. No need to struggle on a daily basis to find the food and water to stay alive. Plus, with jail I can get exercise and relax. Jail. To be perfectly honest with you, I've sometimes dreamed of the idea of being incarcerated. It's an experience I'd love to try. No pressure. No responsibility. The only thing better than jail, as far as I'm concerned, would be house arrest.

get several degrees (high school, BA, MS, PHD), learn to make improvised tools and weapons, attempt to rise to the top of the prison hierarchy, learn chess and go. improve at chess and go. learn and practice meditation - this may alleviate some of the stress of jailtime, and give you "somewhere else to go", more or less. there are probably sanction buddhist meditation meetings, and, if you change your listed religion to strict buddhism (assuming you're not a buddhist, already), you may get a slightly higher grade of prison food (though you may not, and it'll be wholly vegetarian). if you want to try a different religion, try judaism, and demand kosher food - this food, especially the meat, will be of a greater quality than other inmate's (but this may cause enmity among them... to say nothing of the enmity caused by being a jew). join a gang, somehow avoid joining a gang, NEVER BORROW ANYTHING FROM ANYONE (this includes favours), unless you care to become a piece of poorly used community property. if you have contacts, on the outside, you can smuggle drugs or other easily concealed contraband, to sell. this is illegal and dangerous. if you get a job in the kitchen or commissary, you can supply inmates with extra food or cigarettes (stolen from the kitchen or co, of course), which can get YOU favours and money - illegal but often overlooked. you can learn electronics repair, and repair your own and others' radios, and such, for favours. in short... you can do everything, but leave.

You'll have seventy years to think of all the things you could have done, had you played the game according to the rules.
This is the reason that people should never land in jail. Not ending up in jail is so easy - - - obey the law.
Long jail sentences are not only to punish the offender, but are a warning to others. Break the law, end up in the slammer.

First of all, I am sorry your choices in life led you to this point. I can only tell you that you should first pray, make God a focal point in your life. I would find some pen pals to write to you. There are many pen pal sites on the web. just put in prison pen pals in the search and you will find how. Read a lot, write a lot, write poetry or songs.... Try to work at anything that will take your time. Go to school if they have it there... Even on the outside you can be in prison as well, just a different type, it doesn't have bars except inside of you.. I give you the advice I take myself... Good luck to you.

The question isnt what can you do, thats broad. The limiting factor isnt can, its will. What will you do?
You can touch thousands of lives for the better or the worse, through the "short timers". Through them, you can touch the hurting parts of the world.
You can get degrees, and possibly work in those fields. It might be useful for your pay to go to the prison system, but you could still do the work.
It all depends on who you are. Are you motivated inside enough to be crushed but not destroyed? Do you have a vision? If you dont.. all the possibilities in the world are lost to you.

Sleep a lot.
The write a book answers are actually good answers. There was a young man in prison in my state wrote a book of poetry. He actually gets commissions from this and saves most the money in hopes of when he gets out. Some of the money is placed in his prison account and he can buy things from the prison store. Many in prison not have anyone to help, so, they never get money and given only personal care items and some stamped envelopes. So, a little money coming in is of great help.

Learn Latin. Read the classics. Read Boethius. He was thrown in a horrible dungeon and tortured and eventually executed -- for a crime he didn't commit. He developed a philosophy which has been inspiring educated people for 15 centuries.
