I am referring to the specialised job of sniffer dogs and wondering why can't the superintelligent humans takeover this specialised job.
I am unable to put the above question in an appropriate category though, I hope and expect that somebody would answer this qustion.

We haven't got the technology (nor the money) to be able to do such a feat yet. For now is is less costly to use the dogs (and dogs are much more fun than a cold machine).

Perhaps one day far, far into the future we may do it, but not now.

Edit: The types of dogs used for "sniffing" varies. Often the types are Labrador Retrievers, and German Shepherds, although there was an article a while ago where three Pit Bulls were trained and used. It really depends on the individual dog, as some can scent better than others even if they are the same breed.

Generally the type of dog should be peaceful, easily adaptable to its environment and not easily distracted.

We are doing it very well in one sector.

Prescreening of carry on luggage. At the airport machine are capable of sniffing for TNT and associated trace elements. If you have not travelled in recent years then go to any airport near you and just observe. It is done 100% of the time at most USA air ports.

Keep this latter with you, just in case agents get suspicious.

By the way it was introduce at Major airports around 1996 time frame. This has come a long ways since that time, they just stopped some one from boarding the air plane with sticks of Dynamite.

Humm...Dogs do a pretty good job of finding drugs. Plus, they are a lot cheaper than robots. At airports they use both though. They have machines that detect traces of chemicals. As far as dogs looking for drugs, what would be the point of putting so much money into something that they can do for free?

Because we haven't been able to reproduce in a mechanical way what evolution has given the dog. not to that level of sensitivity anyway. Robot noses aren't even as good as human ones. yet.

They already exist, things like gas chromatographers do that, but it's a hell of a lot cheaper to just train a dog.
