People causing trouble, stealing, muggings, car theft ,home breakins etc etc.
Are we to soft and should these people be made to repay or make good on what they did wrong? Does the law deal properly with these crimes.

Yes, we are. ESPECIALLY on repeat offenders. If its a kid that makes a mistake, thats one thing, and the circumstances of a crime need to be taken into consideration, but there are people whose whole life revolves around comitting crimes, and they need to pay, and pay dearly.

Depends where you live in the world. Looters faced being shot in New Orleans for stealing televisions maybe for stealing food and water when there was no state help or other alternative, maybe a tad harsh.

Child killers let out of jail early- too soft
Woman jailed for life for defending herself against a husband who had beaten her for 30 years- probably too hard

Its all about balance and the need to look at each case that's why we have laws and that's why the real key should be to have an impartial judiciary and appoint the best most sensible judges. Voting them in in a popularity contents as in the USA doesn't address their ability at the same time the secretive nature of UK appointments doesn't instill any faith that the best person is being appointed either.

One of the big problems is that all of these shitar*se thieves and pikeys have gained 'rights'. 'Rights' are things that used to have to be earned, along with respect and good social-standing, not just doled-out willy-nilly.

With 'rights' come responsibilities, and this is the part that these cretins seem to overlook.

My answer to your question? Undeniably, 'Yes', emphatically, we are too soft on law breaking, it's high time we made punishments that were more in-line with the crimes. The 'hard labour' mooted by an earlier respondent always seems to be a good idea to me.

yes of course! and when the victim is arrested and the vandals go free, then we have to start thinking just what is happening with British justice which was always regarded as firm but fair where are the people who review the judicial system from time to time, don't they see what we the public see!! yes of course they do, so do something about it and reverse all the leniency given to persons who clearly deserve a hard sentence and just get a slap on the wrist and make the prisons so no one would wish for a second incarceration

We are WAY too soft on those people. Yes, they should have to make restitution for their crimes.

I'd also like to see the defense attorneys' pay reduced to minumum wage, and they should be prohibited from going on camera. That should shut those sorry ****s up.

We are too too soft! If I were in charge, we would be running that Electric Chair 24hours a day 7 days a week. People should pay for their crimes, especially murder.

We are too pre-occupied with human rights and being PC.

Personally I think all those who break the law should be treated in a similar fashion as to the crime committed.

I think those who break the law should be punished with similar regard as to the crime they committed.

A man goes to the sports dept. of his local Walmart, buys a hunting knife. He then corners his ex-wife at her work place. Cornering her in the women's restroom he proceeds to stab her to death. Leaving two children. He gets six years. YES, something is wrong.

ABSOLUTELY ! all criminals really get these days is a "slap on the wrist" and told not to do it again!
It also discusts me that home owners who are trying to stand up for their property and confront criminals get into more serious trouble than the criminal damaging/stealing etc.
